Mencia grape wines
Mencia is a variety of red grape native to northwest Spain. It is most commonly found in red wines from the Bierzo and Valdeorras regions, which were once light and astringent. But since the discovery of low-yielding vines planted on poor soils and often on high ground, the wines have become more intense and more concentrated, attracting the attention of wine lovers around the world. Mencia-based wines tend to have a vegetal character with intense dark fruit notes and a distinct minerality.
