Carménère grape wines

Le point de vue du Baroudeur

Carménère is a dark-skinned grape variety native to the vineyards of Bordeaux that has found a particularly suitable habitat in Chile. Originally, Carménère was thought to be Merlot when it was transplanted to Chile. This case of mistaken identity may have saved the grape from extinction when phylloxera devastated Bordeaux vineyards in the late 1800s. Most Carménère red wines have striking aromas of raspberry, cherry, green pepper, cocoa powder, and a granite-like minerality.
