A new star of the South African wine scene, Duncan Savage learned his trade at one of the country's greats, Cape Point Vineyards, before launching his own négociant business in 2011, to which he now devotes himself full time. With an intimate knowledge of the Western Cape vineyards, he has built a very high-level range by relying on his good taste and his expertise in local terroirs, with a preference for maritime and high-altitude vineyards. “I make wine because I love it. I don't come from a wine family, but I've found what I'm on this earth for!”: such is the credo of a true enthusiast with a finely honed palate, whose only creeds are freshness of fruit and respect for origins. “It's so rewarding to see the results of so many variables unfold in a glass.” Critics have raved about him, raising him to the very top of the South African hierarchy, and his range happily explores the terroirs of Swellendam, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Darling and Olifants River through singular, intense wines that are gently vinified and very much in tune with the times.
