Located in the Willamette Valley, in northwest Oregon, Louise Vineyard belongs to the Cristom estate, renowned for its volcanic hillside Pinot Noirs. Planted on well-drained slopes overlooking the Willamette River, the vines benefit from a cool, humid climate, tempered by the Pacific Ocean's influence. The soils, a mix of clay, silt, and volcanic deposits, promote slow grape ripening and a beautiful aromatic complexity, while preserving a natural acidity that defines the elegant style of the estate's wines.
Made from high-density planted vines and hand-harvested, this Pinot Noir is produced from partially destemmed bunches, with a significant proportion of whole cluster fermentation. Fermentation takes place in open-top vats, with gentle pump-overs and punch-downs to preserve aromatic elegance and tannic structure. After devatting, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels, including some new oak, for extended aging that refines the tannins, enhances the bouquet, and respects the unique terroir of Louise Vineyard.
This wine reveals notes of red fruits, black cherry, and plum, complemented by floral touches of violet and dried rose, as well as spicy nuances of pepper, clove, and cinnamon. Subtle woody accents, evoking vanilla and cedar, mingle with a slightly mineral backbone. On the palate, the texture is silky, supported by a fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a persistent, balanced, and harmonious finish.
