Four habits for a successful wine fair
A wine fair should be prepared like a shopping trip: with an idea of what is missing from your cellar, and a little room for the unexpected.
Stock up on what you open often
A discount doesn't make a wine you'll never open any better. The Tuesday-night red earns its keep more than the rare bottle forgotten at the back of the cellar.
Look at the format
Some cuvées come in packs of three or cases of six. The Format filter in the grid isolates them in one click.
Buy for keeping, too
Each wine's product page indicates its ageing potential. The fair is the right time for bottles that will benefit from waiting a year or two.
Try an unfamiliar wine region
The discounted price lowers the risk of discovery. It's the chance to taste the country or grape variety you've been putting off for a long time.
How long should you keep what you buy?
The fair is when you buy more than you will drink in a month. So you need to know which wines benefit from waiting, and which ones suffer from it.
| Wine style | Suggested ageing | What time brings | During the fair |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rosés and fruity whiteseasy-drinking wines, primeurs | 1 to 3 years | Fresh fruit, which fades quickly | Drink them within the year; they have nothing to gain from waiting. |
| Whites for ageingbarrel-aged Chardonnay, Chenin, Riesling | 5 to 10 years | Notes of honey and hazelnut, a broader texture | A good wine-fair buy: they reveal themselves when you forget about them. |
| Light, fruity redsPinot Noir, Gamay, Cinsault | 2 to 5 years | The fruit melts in, the tannins round out | Easy to fit into the cellar, to open without any special occasion. |
| Structured redsNebbiolo, Cabernet, Syrah | 5 to 15 years and more | Tertiary aromas: leather, forest floor, spice | Those where the discounted price counts most, and which call for patience. |
| Sparkling winesProsecco, Crémant, Champagne | 1 to 3 years | Finer bubbles, sometimes less freshness | Non-vintage ones are for the festive season rather than the decade. |
| Sweet and fortified winesPort, Tokaji, sweet wines | 10 years and more | Notes of dried fruit and candied peel | The most enduring bottles in the cellar: an opened tawny port will even keep for several weeks. |
Orders of magnitude, not rules: each wine's product page gives the ageing potential of that cuvée.
A good deal is a wine you would buy again at full price
A wine fair nudges you to fill your basket by percentage. It is the surest way to end up with twelve bottles of a wine you only half like. A discount is only worth something on a bottle you would have wanted to open anyway.
That is the test we apply when putting the selection together: cuvées we would recommend the rest of the year too, from winemakers whose work we know. The fair changes the price, not the standards.
Three pitfalls to avoid
The blind case. Six bottles of a wine you have never tasted is a gamble. Start with one, then come back for the case.
The easy-drinking wine kept for ten years. A rosé or a fruity white does not improve in the cellar; it fades.
The cellar on the kitchen shelf. Heat and light do more damage than time. Lay bottles down, somewhere cool and dark.

What we are asked about the fair
When is the 2026 wine fair?
At Le Baroudeur du Vin, from 14 September to 4 October 2026. In France, each retailer sets its own dates, but most hold their wine fair after the summer break, between late August and mid-October.
What is a wine fair (foire aux vins)?
A period of wine promotions held after the summer break by wine merchants, supermarkets and online shops. It coincides with the harvest, when wine lovers restock their cellars ahead of autumn and the festive season.
What discounts are on offer during the wine fair?
Up to 20% off. The percentage varies from one bottle to another: it is shown on each card in the selection, next to the crossed-out price.
Do I need a promo code?
No. Discounts are applied automatically in your basket; there is no code to enter.
How does an online wine fair work?
The discounted bottles are gathered on this page. You add them to your basket like any other wine, and the discount is already deducted. Shipping terms are set out on the delivery page.
What if a bottle is sold out?
Wine fair quantities are limited and are not always restocked at the discounted price. Write to us and we will point you towards a cuvée with a similar profile.
How should I store the bottles I buy?
Lying down, in the dark, at a steady temperature between 12 and 16 °C, away from vibrations and heat sources. A cellar is not essential: a cool, north-facing cupboard will do for a few years. The ageing table above gives indicative timeframes by style.
