Jean-Yves Péron

Le point de vue du Baroudeur

The Estate

Originally from Savoie, Jean-Yves began by studying biochemistry before turning to oenology in Bordeaux in the late 1990s. He trained with renowned winemakers such as Thierry Allemand in Cornas and Bruno Schueller in Alsace, then left for Oregon and New Zealand. In 2004, he returned to Savoie and settled in Chevaline, near Lake Annecy, where he recovered small plots of old vines, notably in the terroirs of Conflans and Fréterive. There, he cultivated Mondeuse, Jacquère, and old grape varieties such as Persan and Altesse, biodynamically from the start. The soils are worked without chemicals, using plants such as nettle and horsetail. The vinifications, often using carbonic maceration, are precise and inspired by Italian orange wines. The whites in particular reveal a rare complexity. Jean-Yves recently moved into a new cellar in Albertville, where he allows his wines to slowly mature. Each vintage reflects a place, identifiable by a unique label, and offers a fresh, pure, and deeply Savoyard signature.

The I Vicini Range

Since 2011, Jean-Yves Péron has expanded his business by developing a trading business, purchasing grapes from organic winegrowers close to his estate. This approach allows him to explore new grape varieties and terroirs while remaining faithful to his philosophy. Following the devastating frost of 2016, he crossed the Savoyard border to vinify grapes from Piedmont, a region he particularly loves. Thanks to the complicity of his friend Pietro Vergano, he recovered local grape varieties such as Barbera, Grignolino, Cortese and Moscato. From this collaboration are born the I Vicini cuvées, offering an original and personal vision of this Italian land, not so far away, geographically and spiritually, from his beloved Savoy.
