Carménère grape wines

Carménère is a dark-skinned grape variety native to the vineyards of Bordeaux and which has found a particularly suitable habitat in Chile. Carménère was originally thought to be Merlot when it was transplanted to Chile. This case of mistaken identity may be what saved the grape variety from extinction when phylloxera devastated Bordeaux vineyards in the late 1800s. Most Carménère wines have striking raspberry aromas , cherry, green pepper, cocoa powder and a granite minerality.
