Terrassen Grüner Veltliner 2024

Originating from the terraced slopes overlooking the Traisental Valley, this Grüner Veltliner comes from plots located around Reichersdorf, northwest of Vienna, in Lower Austria. The vines are planted in calcareous and gravelly soils that ensure good drainage and promote slow and even ripening. Facing predominantly south and southeast, these terraces benefit from abundant sunshine while also enjoying the cool nights from the Alpine foothills, helping to preserve the wine's tension and aromatic finesse.

The Grüner Veltliner grapes destined for the Terrassen cuvée are harvested at optimal ripeness and then gently pressed. The must is then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh and fruity character of the grape variety. Aging continues in stainless steel tanks on fine lees for several months, without oak aging, to maintain the aromatic purity, tension, and minerality typical of the Huber estate style.

This wine reveals notes of green apple , fresh pear , and citrus , enhanced by delicate floral touches and a hint of white pepper typical of the grape variety. In the background, a mineral structure evokes wet stone and chalk, adding depth and precision. The palate is lively and elegant, driven by crisp acidity, a light yet flavorful texture, and a taut, slightly saline finish that prolongs the aromatic sensations with remarkable freshness.

Austrian viticulture has made enormous strides in wine quality over the past decade. Today, Austrian winemakers no longer produce cheap wines for mass consumption, but rather refined and complex wines. Austria produces 65% white wines. From a general perspective, Austrian wines are more powerful and richer than those of their German neighbor. The major and most widely planted national grape variety is Grüner Veltliner (an indigenous white grape). Red wine production continues to increase in volume, intensity, and quality. In Burgenland, in particular, producers are making the most of a unique blend of local grape varieties (Blaufränkisch, Saint-Laurent, Zweigelt) and French varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir). Austria's climate is primarily continental, with cold winters and hot summers. The country is influenced by four main weather patterns. To the east, continental influences from Pannonia; to the west, Atlantic influences as well as cold winds from the north; and to the south, Mediterranean influences. The Danube, meandering languidly through numerous vineyards, brings a variety of microclimates to the vines.
