Let's talk little, let's talk wine

Blaufränkisch 2023MORIC

Discover a beautiful expression of Blaufränkisch, an Austrian red grape variety with incredible aromatic potential. Unfiltered, entirely fermented with native yeasts, with no additives apart from a small amount of sulphite, this juicy, fresh and indulgent wine is made as naturally as possible. It is produced from vines aged 12 to 65 years and is aged in 500- to 4,500-litre casks for 14 months. Lovely substance on the palate brings notes of cherry, plum, fig, blackberries and pepper, with a hint of oak that rounds everything off. A must-try for Pinot Noir lovers!

BurgenlandAustria

Burgenland

Burgenland is Austria's second-largest wine region. It is itself divided into four wine areas: Mittelburgenland, Südburgenland, Neusiedlersee and Neusiedlersee-Hügelland. The region runs along the Hungarian border, just across from where Tokaji is made. It enjoys ideal conditions for growing vines, thanks in particular to favourable soils and the warm climate typical of the Pannonian Plain. On top of that, Lake Neusiedl acts as a heat store and regulates the humidity of the air.

The sub-region: Mittelburgenland

Mittelburgenland, a sub-region of Burgenland, lies south of Lake Neusiedl, close to the Hungarian border. It is overwhelmingly red-grape country, with Blaufränkisch accounting for 55% of the 2,104 hectares under vine. Mittelburgenland is in fact nicknamed "Blaufränkischland" because the grape is so omnipresent in this part of the country. Sheltered by mountains and hills on three sides, the east of the region is open to the warm, dry winds of the Pannonian Plain, which combine with the generally water-retentive soils to provide ideal growing conditions.

The little history of the country

Austria

For more than ten years, Austrian viticulture has made an enormous leap in terms of wine quality. Today, Austrian winemakers no longer produce cheap wines for mass consumption, but refined and complex wines. Austria produces 65% white wines. From a fairly global point of view, Austrian wines are more powerful and richer than those of its German neighbor. The great national grape variety and the most widely planted is Grüner Veltliner (native white grape variety). Red wine production continues to increase in volume, intensity and quality. Especially in Burgenland, producers make the most of an original grape variety combining local (Blaufränkisch, Saint-Laurent, Zweigelt) and French (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir) grape varieties.

Austria's climate is predominantly continental with cold winters and warm summers. The country is subject to 4 main influences. To the east, continental influences coming from Pannonia, to the west Atlantic influences but also cold winds coming from the north and to the south Mediterranean influences. The Danube, which meanders languorously through many vineyards, brings numerous microclimates to the vineyards.
