The Last Stand Chardonnay 2023MAGPIE REAL ESTATE
An Australian Chardonnay to absolutely discover. This Chardonnay comes from old vines grown in the North‐West of the Victoria region. The predominant soils are sandy loams derived directly from granite and gneiss rocks. Here, the Chardonnay has a distinctive tangerine peel character. The grapes are harvested early for this sector to ensure balance and freshness. Yields are moderate and the grapes are rich in aromas. This wine reveals fresh notes of lemon , green apple , white flowers , white peach , pear , anise and wet pebbles . On the palate, it is lively and fruity and the finish ends with citrus notes and mineral nuances.
Where are we traveling?
New South WalesAustralia
New South Wales
New South Wales is an Australian wine powerhouse, accounting for almost a third of Australian production. The state has 16 wine regions, which results in a great diversity of terroirs and climates and allows for the cultivation of a range of varieties, each with its own characteristic flavor. Although New South Wales is Australia's second largest wine producing state, it is also the most populous state, causing wine consumption to exceed production.
Victoria
Victoria is a relatively small, but culturally important Australian state. It is located in the southeastern corner of the continent with a cool, ocean-influenced climate. It has the greatest diversity of regional climates, from the very cold Macedon Ranges to the very warm regions stretching along the Murray River from the northeast to the northwest of the state.
The little history of the country
Australia
Australia began making wine more than two centuries ago. The result is a country rich in old vines, multi-generational winemaking families and a deep-rooted knowledge of and respect for craftsmanship. Add to that a thirst for exploration and innovation, a fearless attitude and a varied portfolio of 65 wine regions across many climates, and you have the makings of an extraordinary wine country like few others.
Australia burst onto export markets in the 1980s and has since offered the whole world vibrant, fruity wines of exceptional value. Until the late 1990s and early 2000s, the story of Australian wine was dominated by over-concentrated examples of Shiraz, Grenache and red blends. Between these two extremes lies the diversity of Australia's high-quality and regional wines, which has always existed.
Australian viticulture is concentrated mainly along the southern ocean fringe, where conditions are cooler. There are four main wine regions, located around the major cities: Western Australia around Perth, South Australia around Adelaide, Victoria around Melbourne and New South Wales around Sydney.
The country is one of the world's largest wine producers and was the world's 4th-largest exporter in 2011. This recent development has made Australia one of the most prominent countries for the quality of its wines. You can taste Australian wines all over the country. Each Australian region has its own grape varieties. Australian wines are defined by their grape variety, unlike French wines, which are defined by their terroir.
