The grapes come from Porto Moniz and Raposeira, on the north coast, where the vines are trellised facing the ocean. The volcanic soils, made up of basalt, trachyte and tuff, and the temperate oceanic climate, whose temperature and humidity vary with altitude, preserve the acidity that allows these wines to span the decades.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe 1982 harvest was done by hand, with a quality selection in several passes according to the ripeness of the grapes. After a fermentation halted by fortification with grape spirit, the wine aged according to the traditional canteiro system, in 650-litre casks at ambient temperature, until the month it was bottled, in 2023. More than forty years of slow evolution in the natural warmth of the lodges have given this vintage Madeira its mahogany colour and its concentration.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis wine reveals notes of \u003cstrong\u003ebalsam\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eexotic spices\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eold rum\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003etoasted wood\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecedar\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecigar box\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003esea spray\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003ewalnut\u003c\/strong\u003e. The deep mahogany colour shines with golden glints.
