The vines are rooted in grey Devonian slate rich in rhyolite, a rock of volcanic origin. The cool climate of the Saar, one of the northernmost in Germany, and the sunshine on the steep slopes give wines that are both taut and concentrated, classified as VDP.Ortswein.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe grapes are harvested by hand at the end of October and the beginning of November, with yields limited to around 5.5 tonnes per hectare. The musts ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless-steel tanks. The wine is aged for six to seven months in stainless-steel tanks and bottled without fining, which preserves its brightness and tension.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis wine reveals notes of \u003cstrong\u003eyellow peach\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003emirabelle plum\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ekumquat\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003elemon\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eblueberry\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ejuniper\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ewhite pepper\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003esmoky stone\u003c\/strong\u003e. The dry, juicy palate offers fine intensity and a very pronounced iodine minerality.
