The grapes come from Jardim da Serra, high on the southern slopes, and from the north coast, where the vines are trellised. The volcanic soils, made up of basalt, trachyte and tuff, and the temperate oceanic climate, whose temperature and humidity vary with altitude, preserve the acidity that allows these wines to span the decades.

The 1990 harvest was done by hand, with a quality selection in several passes according to the ripeness of the grapes. After fermentation, the wine was fortified with grape spirit to preserve a dry style. It then aged according to the traditional canteiro system, in 650-litre casks at ambient temperature, until the month it was bottled, in 2023. More than thirty years of slow oxidative ageing have thus shaped this vintage Madeira, from a single harvest.

This wine reveals notes of old brandy, candied citrus, ginger, walnut, bitter orange, spices, waxed wood and lemon zest.
