antonio-madeira-branco-portugal
Antonio Madeira - Branco - 2023

This white from António Madeira comes from the Dão, a region in central Portugal surrounded by mountain ranges that shelter it from both Atlantic influences and continental extremes. The vines grow mainly on poor, well-drained granite soils. The climate, marked by cold, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and cool nights due to altitude, encourages slow ripening that preserves acidity and gives fresh, saline, precise whites.

The cuvée is made from grapes bought from local growers, with almost 60% Encruzado complemented by Bical and other native grape varieties. Fermentation is carried out by native yeasts and malolactic fermentation is completed. The wine is aged for a year in used barrels, then blended and kept for a further year in stainless-steel tanks. It was bottled in June 2025, without fining or filtration.

This wine reveals notes of yellow peach, pear, lemon, dried pineapple, white flowers, aromatic herbs, white pepper and wet stone.
