The property is named after Anthony’s great-great-grandfather, Lord Ashbourne, who was Lord Chancellor of Ireland in the late 1800s.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eSince its first release in 2001, this benchmark wine has redefined the South African red grape variety, \u003cstrong\u003ePinotage\u003c\/strong\u003e , with its classic, refined style and uniquely complex character. This wine comes from a very low-yielding vineyard \u003cspan\u003eplanted on stony, clay-rich soils. After the manual harvest, the grapes are transported as quickly as possible to the press. There, they are selected, destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel vats and the wine will age for\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan\u003e10 months in old 400-litre French oak barrels and 6 months in 2000-litre tuns.
