Barolo Chinato

Margherita Otto's Barolo Chinato is made from grapes grown in the hills of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy, in the heart of the historic Barolo region. The vines are rooted in the marl-limestone soils typical of the Langhe, benefiting from a continental climate tempered by Alpine influences. This mosaic of hillside plots, predominantly south and southwest facing, yields a Nebbiolo of great finesse, which is then flavored according to local tradition to create this emblematic fortified wine of the region.

Made from Barolo grapes grown on the estate, the base wine is fortified with alcohol before being slowly infused with a blend of cinchona bark, aromatic herbs, and select spices, according to a traditional recipe unique to the producer. After maceration, the mixture is gently filtered and then aged in tanks and bottles to harmonize the alcohol, sugar, and bitterness before release.

This wine reveals notes of black cherry , candied red fruits , and orange zest , enhanced by hints of dried rose and violet . Nuances of sweet spices , quinine , cinnamon , and clove mingle with a slightly herbal and balsamic base. On the palate, the texture is velvety, supported by gentle sweetness, fresh acidity, and fine tannins, with a long and warm finish.
