The estate occupies the banks of the Corgo, a tributary of the Douro, close to Peso da Régua. Its vines cling to schist terraces between 70 and 400 metres above sea level and include some ten hectares of old vines planted between the 1920s and 1950s, guardians of local tradition.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe grapes come from old vineyards where Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and other Douro varieties grow together. As with all Port, fermentation is stopped by the addition of grape spirit to retain the fruit's natural sweetness. This tawny then blends several wines with an average age of forty years, all patiently aged in very old 600-litre oak casks. Over the decades, slow oxidation and natural concentration shape a wine of great depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis wine reveals notes of \u003cstrong\u003eblond tobacco\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003edried fig\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003efruitcake\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ewalnut\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003etoasted almond\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eorange peel\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecaramel\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003ehoney\u003c\/strong\u003e. The very intense, complex nose blends tobacco with dried fruit and a balsamic touch. The palate is highly concentrated, superbly structured, velvety and held by lively acidity that balances the sweetness.
