Chianti Classico Riserva 2022Castellare

About the Castellare di Castellina Estate

Castellare di Castellina is an iconic vineyard in Tuscany's Chianti Classico region, known for its environmentally friendly growing methods and its commitment to preserving local grape varieties. The estate combines traditional techniques with modern innovations to produce wines that faithfully express the unique character of their terroir.

About the Chianti Classico Riserva Cuvée

Castellare di Castellina's Chianti Classico Riserva is a refined, heightened expression of Chianti Classico. Made mainly from Sangiovese, this riserva comes from the estate's finest plots. The wine undergoes extended ageing in oak barrels, giving it greater complexity and depth. It embodies the perfect balance between traditional power and elegance, with enhanced ageing potential.

Aromas of the Cuvée

This Chianti Classico Riserva offers a rich, complex bouquet marked by aromas of ripe dark fruit such as cherry and blackberry, interwoven with notes of tobacco, leather and spice from its oak ageing. Hints of damp earth and flint add a further dimension to its aromatic profile.

Characteristics of the Cuvée

  • Grape varieties: Mainly Sangiovese, with small percentages of native grape varieties
  • Profile: An elegant yet powerful wine with well-structured tannins and invigorating acidity that lengthens the finish. The Riserva is made for cellaring, evolving gracefully to reveal greater richness and aromatic complexity over time.
  • Ageing potential: This Riserva has excellent ageing potential and can develop and refine in the cellar over many years, giving enthusiasts the chance to discover how it transforms and blossoms with time.

Food Pairings

Perfect with robust dishes such as grilled red meats, feathered game or traditional Tuscan dishes like wild boar ragù. The Chianti Classico Riserva also pairs well with aged cheeses, where its tannic structure and complexity can truly shine.

Where are we traveling?

ChiantiItaly

The Chianti wine area lies between the cities of Florence (to the north) and Siena (to the south). It is also the region of olive oil and of Michelangelo's famous statue of David. The Chianti region has kept much of its traditional craftsmanship and looks almost as it did a century ago, with rolling hills covered in vineyards as far as the eye can see. The region is a vast area divided into 7 sub-zones, each producing a Chianti with a strong identity of its own: Montalbano, Rufina, Colli Fiorentini, Colli Aretini, Colli Senesi, Montespertoli and Colline Pisane.

The little history of the country

Italy

Ah Italy, what a beautiful hedonistic country, people of the Dolce Vita, but what difficulty in understanding its wine organization! The key to understanding the naming system in Italy is to think of it as several small countries rather than a single homogeneous country because each region has its own naming system. Italy can, however, give wine lovers a multitude of wines with varied and unique flavors and styles, as well as bottles filled with surprise and creativity. Unfortunately, it also produces a large quantity of soulless and characterless wines which are sold under their most useful and commercially reputable name: Pinot Grigio, Chianti, Valpolicella, Lambrusco, Prosecco and many others...

But let's talk a little history, viticulture in Italy dates back to ancient times and it originated in Greece. The Etruscans would have planted vines and Greek immigrants would have improved and modified the grape varieties who subsequently called this country "Oenotria": the country of wine. At the height of the Roman Empire, wine held an important place in daily life and certain regions already stood out for the excellence of their product. The Romans also established numerous vineyards in Europe, leaving an indelible testimony to their invasion.

Today Italy is the largest wine producer in the world, ahead of France. Italy is divided into three climatic areas. The northern mountains experience a fairly harsh mountain climate. The “middle of the boot” plain is the domain of the continental climate with cold winters and hot, stormy summers. In the "southern part of the Italian boot" the Mediterranean climate reigns with very hot and very dry summers without forgetting the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. In summary, Italy produces wines of great variety thanks to its 200 different grape varieties, many of which originate from their lands. It is a country just as complex as its wines which deserve to be explored!
