niepoort-tiara-portugal
Niepoort - Tiara - 2023

Tiara is a high-altitude white from the Douro, born of old vines aged forty to a hundred years, planted at around 600 metres on granite soils, a rarity in a valley dominated by schist. The cool breezes of these heights temper the summer heat and preserve the liveliness of the grape varieties, led by Rabigato, alongside Códega do Larinho, Donzelinho and Cercial. This granite terroir gives a wine of great tension and remarkable freshness.

Niepoort's teams select the grapes from these high-altitude granite plots. After gentle pressing and cold settling, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously, followed by malolactic fermentation, in large, old, neutral oak vats (foudres). The wine is aged in them for around twelve months, which reveals its herbal and mineral nuances without marking the fruit. It was bottled in February 2025.

This wine reveals notes of lemon, green apple, pear, white flowers, linden, fennel, fresh herbs and wet stone.
