Let's talk little, let's talk wine

Pinot noir 2021Dog Point

Here is a magnificent Pinot noir from organic farming and made with minimal intervention. In fact, fermentation is carried out by native yeasts over a period of 2 to 3 weeks before the juice passes into French oak barrels for 18 months . There is no filtration in order to give maximum complexity to the wine. The nose is very fragrant and on the palate we find intense aromas of blueberry , black cherry , plum, licorice and toast mixed with notes of violet and sweet spices. The balance is sumptuous: the tannins are perfectly melted, fatty and silky, enhanced by a salivating and fine acidity and concentration and coated by a beautiful aromatic concentration. A high-flying Pinot noir!

MarlboroughNew Zealand

Marlborough

Marlborough is New Zealand's largest wine region, with 24,000 hectares in the north-eastern corner of the South Island, bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the east and by imposing mountain ranges inland to the north and south. A broad alluvial plain stretches inland from the coast and rises gradually into a landscape of narrow valleys and gently sloping hills. Although it enjoys one of the sunniest and driest climates in New Zealand, Marlborough's heat is tempered throughout the summer months by easterly sea breezes. Sauvignon Blanc remains the region's flagship, but other grape varieties also perform very well here. Among the whites, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling are the most common. In recent years, the region's first Pinot Noir vines have reached maturity and are now producing top-quality wines.

The little history of the country

New Zealand

Introduced in 1819, vine growing was greatly developed by Jean-Baptiste Pompallier, a French Marist missionary. Sent to Oceania in 1837, he settled there from January 1838 onwards to develop New Zealand's vineyards. The first quality vineyards were established in the Hawke's Bay region in the 19th and early 20th centuries. After setbacks caused first by phylloxera and then by the First World War, the vineyards began to expand again during the Second World War, when their area doubled.

Today, New Zealand has 10 main wine regions spread across the North and South Islands, the largest of which is Marlborough. Most of New Zealand's wine regions have a maritime climate. The country's long, narrow shape means that vineyards are never more than 120 km from the coast, and most are much closer than that (with the exception of the semi-continental Central Otago region). A spine of mountains running down the centre of the country shields most of the main wine regions from the strong westerly winds off the Tasman Sea known as the "Roaring Forties". Because of these winds, there are few wine regions on New Zealand's west coast.

The quality and reputation of New Zealand wines are well established. Indeed, the country produces some of the best and most renowned Sauvignon Blanc in the world. And it is no coincidence that New Zealand has made Sauvignon Blanc its emblem, just like its sheep, its kiwis and its legendary haka!
