In 2008, he began planting his own vines in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and now has 4 different plots in total. He \u003cspan\u003euses a gentle, less interventionist approach to create fine, elegant wines.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003eVrede Pinot Noir\u003c\/strong\u003e cuvée comes from a steep north-east-facing slope in the \u003cstrong\u003eHemel-en-Aarde\u003c\/strong\u003e Valley, with low-vigour, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soil. The estate's history is relatively recent: it was only in 2008 that winegrower \u003cstrong\u003eHannes Storm\u003c\/strong\u003e discovered 2 small plots with an exceptional terroir and decided to plant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay there. The\u003cstrong\u003e harvest\u003c\/strong\u003e is done \u003cstrong\u003eby hand\u003c\/strong\u003e. The grapes are destemmed, followed by 10 days of cold maceration in open vats. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, then the wine is aged \u003cstrong\u003e11 months in French oak barriques\u003c\/strong\u003e, 28% of them new. No filtration or fining, with judicious use of sulphites. This wine reveals aromas of \u003cstrong\u003echerry\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ewild strawberries\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eviolet petals\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eraspberry\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecranberries\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003emushrooms\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eforest scents\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ered spices\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eclove\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003ecocoa\u003c\/strong\u003e. The palate reveals the very soul of Pinot Noir in an elegant and subtle way. The tannins are fine and the acidity creates a tension that balances the fruity side of the wine.
