Palacios - Al Chelo - 2023","description":"\u003cp\u003eAl Chelo comes from a tiny 0.39-hectare plot, in the Valdafoz lieu-dit, in the commune of Corullón in Bierzo. The 50- to 90-year-old vines cling to a dizzying slope, up to 70% in places, facing north and north-east between 612 and 675 metres above sea level. The soil, made of flaky slate over a thin, poor subsoil, limits yields and gives the wine its tension and mineral character.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe harvest is manual, with sorting in the vineyard. The grapes are partially destemmed and then fermented in wooden vessels, with the cap gently punched down for controlled extraction. Ageing lasts around eight and a half months, in barrels and bocoys, a shorter period than for the estate's other cuvées in order to round out powerful tannins. Only 1,244 bottles were produced, bottled in May 2025.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis wine reveals notes of \u003cstrong\u003epomegranate\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003echerry\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecitrus zest\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eflowers\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003emint\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ebalsamic notes\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003esmoke\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eslate\u003c\/strong\u003e. Juicy, tangy red fruit rests on a minty freshness and a smoky minerality.
