david-moreno-rioja-blanco-espagne
David Moreno - Rioja Blanco - 2022

This white Rioja comes from the Alto Najerilla, in Rioja Alta, where the Najerilla valley descends from the Sierra de la Demanda. The Viura vines, more than thirty-five years old, are located around the villages of Badarán and Cárdenas, at an average altitude of around 600 metres. The Atlantic-influenced climate, with cold winters and long, mild autumns, allows slow ripening, while the clay-limestone and ferrous clay soils bring freshness and balance to this white from the David Moreno bodega.

The grapes are hand-harvested around mid-October, after careful monitoring of ripeness. After a light maceration, only the free-run juice is fermented at low temperature for about ten days, to preserve the aromatic intensity of the Viura. The wine is then aged for a few months on its fine lees kept in suspension, which gives it greater complexity, roundness and a creamier texture, while retaining the desired liveliness.

This wine reveals notes of reinette apple, pear, lemon, grapefruit, white flowers, acacia blossom, fennel, fresh almond and brioche.
