I Vicini Barbera 2022

Since 2011, Jean-Yves Péron has been developing a trading business by purchasing harvests from organic winegrowers in the region and collaborating with producers in Northern Italy. This approach has given rise to the I Vicini series, which offers him the opportunity to explore a greater diversity of terroirs and enrich his expertise in winemaking and aging.

I Vicini Barbera is a dry, natural red wine made by Jean-Yves Péron in Savoie from Barbera, a well-known grape variety from the Italian Piedmont. The grapes are grown on gray and white marl soils and harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, then macerated for 3 months, including 15 days of carbonic maceration . The wine is then aged for 12 months in old barrels without filtration, fining or the addition of sulfites. This wine reveals notes of red fruits, blackberries, blackcurrants, black berries, forest scents, leather, fresh cocoa and spices. On the palate, the wine is generous, round and distinguished by its freshness, tension and aromatics typical of the grape variety. It remains round while being fresh and digestible.

Italy is divided into three climatic areas. The northern mountains experience a fairly harsh mountain climate. The “middle of the boot” plain is the domain of the continental climate with cold winters and hot, stormy summers. In the "southern part of the Italian boot" the Mediterranean climate reigns with very hot and very dry summers without forgetting the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. In summary, Italy produces wines of great variety thanks to its 200 different grape varieties, many of which originate from their lands. It is a country just as complex as its wines which deserve to be explored!
