Let's talk little, let's talk wine

product descriptions logo

The Sauvignon Vert Opoka Cru comes from the slopes of Medana, in the heart of the Goriška Brda region, in the far west of Slovenia, a few kilometers from the Italian border. The vines are planted in local marl-limestone soils called "opoka," renowned for their water retention capacity and ability to impart a strong minerality to the wines. The plots, situated on well-exposed slopes, benefit from the combined influence of the Adriatic Sea and the Alps, resulting in significant temperature variations and a slow, even ripening of the grapes.

This wine reveals notes of ripe stone fruit , fresh citrus , and delicate tropical fruit , complemented by floral touches, gentle spicy nuances, and a mineral character marked by the opoka. The palate is full-bodied and flavorful , supported by a lively acidity that lengthens the wine without heaviness, with an elegant structure and a long, slightly saline finish that underscores the character of its terroir.

Where are we traveling?

Primorska

Primorska, meaning "coastal region" in Slovenian, is located in western Slovenia, bordering Italy and the Adriatic Sea. This wine region comprises four main areas: Brda (Slovenian Collio), Vipava, Kras (Carso), and Slovenian Istria. The climate is Mediterranean tempered by the Adriatic, with hot, dry summers and the impact of the bora, a cool northeasterly wind. The soils range from marly flysch in Brda to the red limestone soils of Kras. Primorska cultivates indigenous grape varieties such as Rebula (Ribolla), Malvazija, and Refošk, as well as international varieties. The region is renowned for its mineral-driven, textured white wines, often aged in amphorae or barrels, and for its skin-fermented orange wines. These authentic wines reflect the richness of a terroir at the crossroads of Slavic and Italian influences.

The little history of the country

Slovenia

product descriptions logo

Slovenia is a small European country with a long history of wine production. Viticulture dates back to the Celts, who were the first to produce wine in what is now Slovenia, 400 years before Christ. With the arrival of the Romans in the first century AD, viticulture developed further. But let's talk a little about what happened during the last century: despite the cultural and political turmoil that plagued the Balkan states, Slovenia maintained its wine industry, which has been particularly prosperous since the country gained its independence from the former Yugoslavia. Slovenia has a diverse geography, offering a wide variety of microclimates. The region is bordered to the north by the Austrian Alps, to the west by Italy and the Adriatic Sea, to the east by Hungary, and to the south by Croatia. The grape varieties cultivated in Slovenia show Italian influence in the west, Germanic influence in the east, and a growing "international" French influence overall. This multifaceted influence contributes to a very diverse and surprising range of wines!
