The grapes come mainly from the vineyards of Seixal and Ribeira da Janela, on the north coast, where trellised vines overlook the ocean. The volcanic soils, made up of basalt, trachyte and tuff, and the temperate oceanic climate, whose temperature and humidity vary with altitude, preserve a bright acidity, the signature of great medium-dry Madeiras.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe harvest is done by hand, with a quality selection in several passes according to the ripeness of the grapes. After a fermentation halted by fortification with grape spirit, the wines are aged according to the canteiro system, in oak casks at ambient temperature, where the natural warmth of the lodges makes them evolve slowly. This blend brings together wines that have spent an average of forty years in cask, before bottling in 2025.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis wine reveals notes of \u003cstrong\u003edried fruit\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecandied fruit\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003edried fig\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eexotic spices\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ecedarwood\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003esmoky resin\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003ewalnut\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eold cognac\u003c\/strong\u003e. The golden colour with green glints betrays a very long ageing.
