zarate-albarino-espagne
Zárate - Albariño - 2025

This cuvée comes from Bodega Zárate, based in the Val do Salnés, the most Atlantic sub-zone of the Rías Baixas appellation, in Galicia. The vines, around 35 years old, take root at some fifty metres above sea level on small plots of decomposed granite, the xabre, which brings tension and salinity. The cool, humid oceanic climate encourages slow ripening and marked acidity, while training on parra, the traditional pergola, naturally ventilates the bunches.

The vines are farmed with permanent grass cover between the rows, which energises the soils and strengthens their microbial life. The excellent 2025 vintage produced Albariño grapes that are both aromatic and of great purity. The wine is then aged for three months in stainless-steel tanks, a short ageing that keeps intact the freshness of the fruit, the tension of the granite and the saline vivacity characteristic of the Val do Salnés.

This wine reveals notes of white peach, white flowers, lemon peel, lime, grapefruit, pear, sea spray and gunflint. The pale yellow colour with green glints heralds a dry, taut white. On the palate, chiselled acidity carries a sleek substance of great precision, where purity of fruit and salinity intertwine. The fine, almost crystalline texture leads to a long, vertical finish of dazzling freshness.
