Sorì San Lorenzo is an austere terroir that reaches maturity later than average. This wine shows a rich, complex structure with fruity, mineral and spicy notes. A wine of great richness and exceptional ageing potential!
Terroir: The Sorì San Lorenzo vineyard is located in the village of Barbaresco, just a few metres from the centre. The plot covers only 9 ares, at an altitude of 260 metres. The soil is made up of clay-limestone marl.
Winemaking: fermentation and maceration in stainless-steel tanks for 3 weeks. Then aged in barrique for 12 months before further ageing in larger casks for one more year.
Tasting: Sorì San Lorenzo is often considered the most powerful and austere of Gaja's single-vineyard wines. It needs more time to open up fully… Very concentrated, with intense notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, a mineral hint of aromatic herbs and exotic spices… A rich, dense, complex juice of great concentration and assertive power. A great wine for ageing that can easily be cellared for 40 years or more.
This wine reveals notes of quince compote, strawberry jam, red apple, pomegranate, blackberry and black cherry, extended by touches of rose, broom flowers, liquorice, black tea and stone. Ripe red and black fruit intertwine with a delicate floral, spicy and mineral register, with a hint of dried herbs. The palate is broad, dense and dynamic, carried by vibrant freshness and noticeable yet silky tannins. Its persistent finish, both saline and refined, leaves a sense of controlled power.
